It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Saskatoon gets cold in January. This year, in fact, has been warmer than most. Two years ago we had 22 days of temperatures below -30. So far this year we’ve had only 2 or 3 days of frigid cold.

In a previous role, I hated this time of year. I used to manage a transportation company and when it gets this cold, things always break. Not only that, but the roads are treacherous. You can do all the right things and still end up stranded or vehicleless.

I don’t miss that. The biggest challenge I face due to the frigid temperature is whether the vehicle you want to test-drive will start. And, if it doesn’t, we do have booster packs.

In fact, I try and have some fun with the weather. I don’t know if there is a Guiness World Book of Records for Coldest Walkaround, but if there is maybe I can win!

And, kids, if it is -35C outside, don’t go outside without a jacket. It’s not a good idea at all.
